A 28-year-old unemployed man, Emmanuel Takyi, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour after being convicted of theft and attempting to rob his former employer.
Takyi pleaded guilty in the Tarkwa Circuit Court to charges of stealing GH¢28,000 from a gold shop where he once worked and later conspiring to rob the owner.
According to Police Chief Inspector Abraham Ayitey, Takyi, originally from Derma in the Ahafo Region, had worked at the complainant’s gold refinery in Wassa Dadieso.
After stealing the money, he traveled to Koforidua, squandered the stolen funds, and then planned a robbery with an accomplice.
The pair intended to strike on September 29, 2024, but their plot was foiled when the accomplice tipped off the complainant, leading to a police intervention.
The authorities received detailed information about the suspects’ movements, which led to their arrest at a police roadblock near Wassa Akropong.
Takyi confessed to his crimes, citing financial hardship as the motive behind his actions.
