Ghana’s squad for the upcoming AFCON 2025 Qualifiers against Angola and Niger has been announced, but one notable absentee is Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.
The 31-year-old will miss his second consecutive set of qualifiers, having already sat out last month’s double-header against Sudan.
Coach Otto Addo addressed Partey’s absence at a press conference on Thursday, revealing that the player had initially expressed a willingness to travel, but after a private discussion, Addo advised against it.
“I had a confidential talk with Thomas, and as a coach who always prioritizes the well-being of my players, I ask for your understanding,” he explained.
Addo emphasized that the decision to leave Partey out was a personal one, adding, “It’s difficult for me to share all the details, but we move forward.”
In Partey’s absence, Jordan Ayew will captain the Black Stars. Ghana’s next two fixtures will see them face Angola on November 15 in Luanda, followed by a meeting with Niger on November 18 in Accra. Currently, Ghana sits third in Group F, with just two points from their first four games.
