Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag-bearer of the NPP, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Ghana’s economy via digitalization and technology.
At a campaign rally in Nyinahin, Atwima Mponua District, he announced the upcoming launch of Ghana’s first credit scoring system on November 7, aimed at facilitating credit access for Ghanaians and enhancing their living standards.
This system will be the second of its kind in Africa, following South Africa.
Kicking off a 15-day tour of the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia noted that the government has established essential infrastructure to support this initiative, including the Ghana Card, a digital address system, and mobile money interoperability.
These tools are designed to encourage broader participation in the credit scoring system.
A key priority for Dr. Bawumia’s potential presidency is the redevelopment of the country’s railway system to improve the movement of goods, particularly from rural areas to ports.
He highlighted plans for the Kumasi-Takoradi railway line, which will facilitate the transport of bauxite from a new mine in Nyinahin to the port.
As Vice President, Dr. Bawumia also announced changes to administrative processes, such as extending the duration of driver’s licenses from six to ten years and simplifying passport acquisition to just one Ghana Card.
He emphasized that the government’s performance across various sectors—including education, health, and infrastructure—has positively impacted the quality of life for Ghanaians. He pointed to the free Senior High School (SHS) policy as a significant achievement that has increased school enrollment and reduced financial burdens on families.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted that numerous youth have found employment through various government initiatives, contributing to economic growth. He cited the success of the Planting for Food and Jobs program, which has bolstered food security in Ghana, now ranked third in Africa for food security.
His administration would prioritize agricultural development, planning to invest in agricultural mechanization centers to boost production. Dr. Bawumia also stressed the importance of encouraging private sector involvement in major development projects to alleviate financial pressures on the state.
He proposed strict implementation of the ‘Buy Ghana First’ policy to ensure that locally made products are prioritized in government projects. Dr. Bawumia urged voters to support the NPP to realize the ‘big solutions’ initiative aimed at transforming the country and improving living conditions.
Seth Osei Akoto, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Atwima-Mponua, echoed Dr. Bawumia’s sentiments, stating that the constituency has witnessed significant development under the NPP government.
He encouraged continued support for the party to further implement initiatives that enhance residents’ lives, particularly highlighting the free SHS policy’s role in expanding access to education.
Mr. Akoto called on constituents to turn out in large numbers on December 7 to vote for the NPP, emphasizing the importance of sustaining socio-economic policies that can transform the nation.
