In a tragic escalation of the ongoing Bawku conflict, two more individuals have lost their lives, bringing the total death toll to 19. The victims were ambushed while traveling in a truck from Bawku, as unidentified assailants opened fire on their vehicle.

One of the deceased was a Mamprusi, and the other a Togolese national who had come to Bawku to care for his ailing father, who sadly passed away during their visit. They were on their way back to Togo with the body when the attack occurred.

The Bawku conflict, driven by longstanding chieftaincy disputes and ethnic tensions, has intensified recently, particularly after the return of a rival chief, which reignited conflicts among various ethnic groups.

Despite the presence of security forces aimed at restoring peace, violence and fear continue to grip the region.
