Bia East MP Richard Acheampong has publicly criticized Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin for his perceived arrogance and lack of collaboration in leadership.

Hon. Acheampong expressed concerns that Afenyo-Markin’s dismissive attitude towards other parliamentarians is undermining effective governance.

These remarks came in the wake of a petition from the Majority caucus urging Speaker Alban Bagbin to reconvene Parliament for urgent legislative matters, including tax exemptions for the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative and the approval of a $250 million Ghana Financial Stability Fund.

In a discussion Hon. Acheampong emphasized the need for consultation and inclusivity in parliamentary proceedings, suggesting that Afenyo-Markin’s leadership style could greatly benefit from engaging with a wider array of perspectives.

He further indicated that Afenyo-Markin may be receiving misguided advice, which contributes to his perceived arrogance and the ongoing tension in parliamentary leadership.

Hon. Acheampong stressed that being open to input from fellow MPs would lead to better decision-making and unity.

He concluded by highlighting the importance of collaboration, especially on national issues, stating that it is crucial for policies and initiatives to be thoroughly debated and supported by all sides of the House.

“You have significant matters to address, including budget presentations and tax exemptions. It’s vital to reach out, engage with others, and approach this unique 8th Parliament with humility,” he asserted. “Without this openness, we risk further complicating the parliamentary process.”
