Majority Confident in Upcoming Supreme Court Decision on Vacant Seats

Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, is optimistic that the Supreme Court will deliver a decisive ruling on Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant before the next session of Parliament begins.
He believes this ruling is crucial to avoid a repeat of the last parliamentary sitting, where both the NPP and NDC MPs claimed majority status, leading to an NPP boycott of the proceedings.
The conflict arises from the Speaker’s decision, which the Supreme Court has temporarily stayed, while the Minority continues to assert its majority in Parliament.
Speaking in an interview Hon. Tetteh Djornobuah expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would soon resolve the issue of the vacant seats, potentially alleviating tensions within Parliament.
The Majority contends that the ongoing suspension of parliamentary sittings over this dispute is obstructing vital government business, prompting their call for Parliament to be recalled.
He noted, “The court process will start from Friday, and we trust that the Supreme Court will address the matter swiftly, ensuring justice prevails before the seven-day deadline.”
