A 31-year-old farmer has been sentenced to eight months in prison by the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court for stealing foodstuffs in Sepaase, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

Isaac Atimbisa was found guilty of stealing six bunches of plantains and two sacks of cassava valued at GH¢350.00 from a local farm, and was in the process of transporting the stolen items for sale.

He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Mrs. Philomina Asiedu.

Police Inspector Evans Baaba Ayimbisa, who prosecuted the case, informed the court that the complainant, Joseph Amankwah, a mason living in Sepaase, noticed Atimbisa carrying the stolen goods by the roadside at approximately 1:40 PM on October 12.

Suspicious of Atimbisa’s actions, Amankwah alerted some neighbors to help him question the farmer about the origin of the foodstuffs. According to Inspector Ayimbisa, Atimbisa confessed to the theft and was subsequently handed over to the Sepaase Police. In his caution statement, he admitted to the crime and directed the police to the complainant’s farm.

Following the investigation, Atimbisa was charged and brought before the court.
