Senior spokesperson for the Movement for Change, Hon. Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has called on the people of the Ashanti Region to back their own, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen.
Hon. Buaben Asamoa’s statement is in response to President Akufo-Addo’s appeal for the North East Region to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he describes as “their son.”
“I am very concerned about who is going to come and sit in this room,” President Akufo-Addo said, emphasizing the importance of continuity and competent leadership. “I’m urging all of you here in the North East Region to come together as one and put your shoulder to the wheel to make your son, Mahamudu Bawumia, the next president of Ghana,” Akufo-Addi said.
Hon. Buaben Asamoa speaking on the ‘Ghana Se Sen’ Morning Show with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV/Radio ahead of the Afrafranto Mega Walk in Kumasi on October 19, criticized the President’s tribalistic stance.
He suggested it’s unfair for him to rally the North East behind only Bawumia.
He asserted that if the President promotes Bawumia as a son of the North, then Alan Kyerematen deserves the same recognition as a son of Ashanti.
He pointed out that both the NPP and NDC have been in power for 32 years without delivering significant change, only creating hardship for Ghanaians.
He noted that Kyerematen’s campaign message has resonated strongly with the Ashanti people during their two weeks of engagement in the region.
