Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has emphasized the need for a major economic reset, arguing that Ghana’s economy has faced significant challenges over the past eight years.
During his vetting before the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, February 22, Dumelo stressed the urgency of a fundamental shift in economic management to tackle persistent issues.
“Unfortunately, in the last eight years, our economy hasn’t been that good. Hence, the need to reset Ghana in all aspects of the economy,” he stated.
His remarks sparked a query from Ranking Member Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who asked whether Dumelo’s assessment considered global economic shocks such as COVID-19, the Russia-Ukraine war, and other external disruptions.
In response, Dumelo pointed to acknowledgments from the previous administration about the nation’s economic struggles.
“If you listen to some of the comments made by the past administration, they confirmed and confessed that the economy was bad. I am simply reiterating what they said to highlight the need for the NDC to reset Ghana in the right direction,” he explained.
