An 80-year-old man, Nmei Sam, tragically lost his life in a fire that broke out in his room in the Sawla Sindaa electoral area of the Savannah region on Saturday. The incident has left the local community in deep shock.
Residents shared with Adom News that Sam, who lived alone and had no electricity, is believed to have been unaware of what caused the fire. Although firefighters responded quickly, they faced challenges as they arrived on motorbikes and had to rely on water from nearby homes to put out the flames. The Sawla District fire truck has been out of service for over a month.
While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, the chief of Sawla, Sawlawura Abdulai Nungbaso, urged residents to exercise caution as the harmattan season approaches and called on the government to repair the district’s fire tender.
The deceased has been handed over to his family for burial, in line with Vagla tradition.
