$7M Cybersecurity Scandal: Former NSB Boss Adu-Boahene Arrested for Fund Diversion

Attorney-General exposes former National Signals Bureau chief for redirecting cyber defense funds into private accounts.

The former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, has been arrested for allegedly misappropriating $7 million meant for a cyber defense system, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine, has revealed.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, March 24, Ayine detailed how Adu Boahene diverted public funds intended for strengthening Ghana’s cybersecurity defenses into his private account.

The contract, signed on January 30, 2020, was between the Government of Ghana, the National Security, and Israeli firm RLC Holdings Limited. However, just days later, Adu Boahene allegedly transferred GH¢27.1 million from the NSB’s Fidelity Bank account into a private account at UMB under the guise of paying for the system.

Authorities are investigating the unauthorized transactions as part of efforts to ensure accountability in the country’s security infrastructure.
