Company Launches Disconnection Campaign to Recover Over GH¢40 Million in Arrears

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is urging its customers to promptly pay their water bills to support the company’s ongoing operations.

The Ashanti North Regional Chief Manager, Theophilus Tawiah Collins, emphasized that the failure to pay bills was hindering the company’s ability to function effectively in the region.

At the recent Customer Service Week celebration in Kronum, Sumae Municipality, Mr. Tawiah revealed that customers in the region owe over GH¢40 million.

Despite efforts to educate the public, payments have remained disappointing.

Customers can make payments through multiple channels, including mobile money apps. Mr. Tawiah pointed out that GWCL relies solely on water bill payments to maintain infrastructure and provide potable water, as the company does not receive government support.

To recover the arrears, GWCL has launched a major disconnection campaign, which will run until the end of 2024. Additionally, the company plans to eliminate paper billing by December.

As part of the celebrations, ten customers were recognized for their timely bill payments, and Samuel Kyei Boateng, a meter reader from the Nketiah District, was honored as the Best Staff for his outstanding performance.
