A rock blasting accident at Gomoa Buduburam, conducted by a contractor on the Kasoa to Winneba highway, has left three people dead and 39 others injured.
The victims, including one male and two females, were tragically killed when debris from the blast struck them on the head, dying instantly.
The injured, primarily commuters and local residents, were rushed to the hospital, with four of them being referred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra due to the severity of their injuries.
This unfortunate incident occurred on Monday afternoon around 3:30 PM, rather than the usual 5 PM schedule.
Eyewitnesses reported that debris from the blast flew into nearby homes, causing injuries to residents.
According to local resident Kpakpo, the timing of the explosion appears to have been a mistake, as it took place earlier than expected, catching many off guard.
“Maybe the person who set the dynamite got the timing wrong, hence the tragedy,” he stated.
The injured and deceased were transported to St Gregory Hospital in Buduburam for treatment.
