Actress Emphasizes Confidence and the Dangers of Altering One's Appearance

Story Highlights

Ghanaian actress and movie producer Yvonne Nelson recently shared her thoughts on the growing trend of body enhancements during an interview.

She revealed that she has never undergone any form of body enhancement and has no plans to do so. She expressed full satisfaction with her natural appearance and emphasized that she feels no pressure to change her body.

Yvonne addressed the societal pressures many women face to alter their bodies, particularly to meet the expectations of others, especially men. She believes this pressure is misguided, stating that women should not feel compelled to alter their bodies to please anyone, as such changes often lead to disappointment.

As a mother, Yvonne shared that setting a good example for her daughter is one of the main reasons she chooses to embrace her natural body. She expressed concern about the questions her daughter might ask as she grows older, particularly about her physical appearance. Reflecting on this, she said, “One day you will become a mother, your kids are going to see you. They will go like, ‘Mummy, in your previous pictures from 1992, your backside was flat. What happened to it? Did you blow it up? Is it a balloon?’ I am not ready for such questions. My daughter is like me, she talks a lot, and she will ask you all the questions. I do not want to answer such questions. I am okay with how I look. I am content.”

For Yvonne, she doesn’t believe body enhancements would bring any meaningful improvement to her life. “I don’t think enhancing any part of my body is going to help me in any way,” she said.

Instead of opting for cosmetic surgery, Yvonne humorously stated that she would rather have more children. “If I were to do anything to my body, I would rather have a lot of babies. If I want to find myself in the hospital, it’s because I want to have babies, not because I want to cut somewhere and chip something in,” she declared.

Yvonne also discussed the psychological impact that body enhancements can have on individuals. She believes many people undergo such procedures due to a lack of confidence. “I feel that it is a mental thing. It is a lack of confidence,” she explained.

Finally, Yvonne offered advice to young girls, warning them of the dangers of starting down the path of body alterations. “I do not expect any of you to do that, because the minute you do that, it never stops. The minute you alter any part of your body, you will want to alter another part. You will want a fuller lip. You will want a bigger ear. You will always want to change something about you,” she cautioned.
