  • Wontumi’s health status is now being managed and monitored

The lawyer representing Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has shared the latest on his client’s health status.

According to lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi, Chairman Wontumi has been unwell even prior to his recent arrest and is currently undergoing treatment.

Appiah-Kubi revealed in an interview that Wontumi had been battling the flu since last week, which prompted the defense to request a delay in his interrogation by the CID. The chairman remains hospitalized and has yet to fully recover.

Chairman Wontumi was detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday following questioning at the CID headquarters in Accra. His hospitalization was confirmed by his lawyer later that same day.

On Wednesday, the NPP Ashanti Regional Communications Director, Paul Yandoh, mentioned that Wontumi’s exact location was unclear and no official updates had been issued about his health. He also noted that the chairman had missed a crucial medication dose Tuesday evening and had still not taken it by Wednesday afternoon.

Despite these concerns, Wontumi’s lawyer has now confirmed that an understanding with EOCO has been reached, ensuring the chairman is receiving the appropriate medical care.
