Wontumi Has Done No Wrong; He Will Be Exonerated — Paul Yandoh
NPP’s Paul Yandoh says EOCO probe into Chairman Wontumi is politically driven

- Paul Yandoh says Wontumi committed no crime and will be cleared of all charges
- The GH₵7 million EXIM Bank loan was used for a farm project destroyed by floods
- NPP alleges the EOCO investigation is politically motivated by NDC hostility
Paul Kwabena Yandoh, Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly defended Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, amid ongoing investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Speaking in an interview on Lawson TV/Radio Ghana Se Sen Show on Thursday June 12, 2025, Yandoh insisted that Wontumi has committed no wrongdoing and expressed confidence that he will be exonerated.
He described the legal actions against the Ashanti Regional Chairman as fueled by political bitterness and hatred from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“Wontumi has done no wrong; he will be exonerated,” Yandoh said. “This case is a product of political vendetta and bitterness from the NDC, not a genuine pursuit of justice.”
Yandoh condemned the aggressive approach taken by state agencies, including the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and EOCO, highlighting the “Rambo-style” arrest of Wontumi at his residence by masked and heavily armed operatives.
He questioned the rationale behind the harsh bail conditions imposed on Wontumi, including a GH₵50 million surety limited to properties in Accra, and why the Chairman was prevented from bailing himself.
The NPP spokesperson further clarified that the GH₵7 million loan Wontumi secured from EXIM Bank was intended for an agricultural project, which was later destroyed by floods. According to Yandoh, the farm was insured and the bank’s staff, who also managed the farm, were fully aware of the flood damage.
“Taking a loan from a bank is not a crime. Wontumi did not personally withdraw the funds, and the loan was used for farming purposes,” Yandoh emphasized. “It is unfortunate that political interests are being used to cloud the facts.”
Wontumi is currently required to report to EOCO every three days as part of the ongoing investigation.
