Members of the Movement for Change (MFC) across the country have urgently called on their leader, Alan Kyerematen, to withdraw from the December 7th elections due to a lack of preparedness within the movement’s leadership.
At a press conference where they denounced their affiliation with Alan’s Movement for Change, Anthony Ashmon Cobbina, Coordinator for Asante Akyem and spokesperson for the defectors, explained that their decision stemmed from the absence of a clear vision just days before the elections.
He advised their former leader, Alan Kyerematen, by quoting the popular saying, “If you can’t beat them, join them.” Cobbina suggested that Kyerematen could still rejoin the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and support Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh in the upcoming elections.
According to Cobbina, the group had initially followed their emotions but now realized that Ghana’s interest and the future of the NPP must take precedence. “Your prodigal children are back, and we can’t sit back and watch the NDC win because we know they cannot lead Ghana to the promised land. Since the leadership of the Movement for Change has failed to show readiness for political power, the NPP is the hope for Ghana. We are back to win for NPP and for Ghana,” he stated.
Other former MFC members present at the press conference included Justice Appiah, Coordinator for Konongo; Benjamin Abrefah, Coordinator for Obuasi; Kofi Dwomoh, Coordinator for Brofoyedur; and Mr. Asiamah, Coordinator for New Edubiase and Adanse Asokwa.
Cobbina also praised the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that their leadership has been impressive and earned the admiration of every Ghanaian.
“Ghana is on a good path under this leadership, unless you are unwilling to accept the truth. The country has achieved so much, and we are proud to rejoin the team,” he said.
The group acknowledged that they had initially joined the Movement for Change due to Alan Kyerematen’s past commitment to the NPP and to humanity.
However, they now reaffirmed their belief in the capabilities of the ruling NPP and expressed their full support for its continued leadership.
