Eagle-eyed fans of Wicked were surprised to discover a cheeky mistake on the packaging of newly released dolls inspired by the upcoming film.
Mattel, the toy company behind the singing dolls, inadvertently listed an adult website in the small print instead of the film’s official web address.
This mix-up came to light as fans began sharing photos of the doll packaging on social media.
The dolls, inspired by the highly anticipated movie starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, are recommended for children aged four and older. However, the packaging contained a link to a pornographic website, which was spotted underneath the Universal Pictures logo.
Fans took to platforms like Reddit to express their astonishment. One user wrote, “I purchased the Singing Elphaba doll and found an unaffiliated adult website listed right above the barcode on the back of the box. Anyone else seeing this?!”
Another post from a woman in the U.S. confirmed the issue at local retailers, stating, “Went to Target and Walmart today and yeah, the Wicked dolls have the [porn] website listed.”
The Wicked movie, set to be released in the U.S. and UK on November 22, explores the story of Elphaba, played by Erivo, who is misunderstood due to her green skin and destined to become the Wicked Witch of the West. She forms an unlikely friendship with Glinda, portrayed by Grande, who becomes the Good Witch of the North.
Mattel has been contacted for comment regarding the error.
