Why Black Stars Budget for Chad and Madagascar Games Was Withheld – Kofi Adams
Minister Kofi Adams defends decision, citing potential distractions ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has defended the decision to keep the budget for the Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup qualifier matches against Chad and Madagascar under wraps.
Despite President John Mahama’s earlier commitment to making national team budgets public, the government chose to withhold financial details ahead of the crucial fixtures.
Calls for transparency grew louder, but Adams argued that revealing the budget could create distractions that might impact the team’s focus and performance.
“People were asking me to disclose the budget for the games, but I kept asking myself, what will the budget do for the team ahead of the games? Sometimes, certain situations create distractions, so we must weigh every decision carefully,” he explained in an interview.
However, the minister assured the public that the budget details would eventually be released, emphasizing that operating the national team is costly, particularly due to the involvement of European-based players.
With the controversy lingering, the Black Stars now shift their attention to their upcoming qualifiers against Chad and Mali as they continue their quest for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
