Wenchi Methodist Hospital, Assembly to Conduct Mass Burial of 28 Unclaimed Bodies
Hospital morgue congestion prompts burial to restore operations and address health risks
- 28 unclaimed bodies in Wenchi Methodist Hospital's morgue after nearly three years
- Mass burial scheduled from January 23 to 31, 2025, to decongest morgue and prevent health risks
- Public urged to identify and collect bodies before the deadline for dignified burials
The Wenchi Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region is set to carry out a mass burial for 28 unclaimed and unidentified bodies that have remained in its morgue for nearly three years.
The prolonged storage has caused congestion, hampering the facility’s operations.
In a statement signed by Wenchi Municipal Coordinating Director Jimah Yakubu, it was revealed that despite multiple public announcements for identification and collection, no families have come forward. The Environmental Health Unit of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the hospital, has scheduled the burial from Thursday, January 23, to Friday, January 31, 2025, to address potential health risks and restore morgue efficiency.
The public has been urged to cooperate and assist in identifying the bodies before the deadline to ensure dignified burials.
Families with missing relatives are encouraged to visit the hospital for verification.
