“We Beat Mahama by 1 Million With Same Constitution!” – Ahafo NPP Chair Claps Back at Adutwum’s Call for Delegate Reform

Ahafo Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, has pushed back strongly against recent comments by Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, who called for a major shake-up in the party’s delegate system following their 2024 electoral defeat.
Dr. Adutwum, speaking to journalists on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, urged the NPP to broaden its Electoral College to include all registered, dues-paying party members in the leadership selection process. He argued that such inclusivity would energize the grassroots and improve the party’s chances of reclaiming power.
“Every committed party member should have a say. If they’re paying dues and working for the party, they deserve to vote,” Dr. Adutwum stated.
But in a sharp response on the Ghana Se Sen show on Lawson TV/Radio, Chairman Owusu Sekyere reminded party faithful that the same constitution being questioned now was the one that led to a landslide victory over John Mahama in 2016.
“We beat Mahama by one million votes using this same system,” he fired back. “We’ve just received the report on the 2024 elections—no one has even read it yet. Let’s not rush into blame games.”
He acknowledged, however, that reforms will be considered—particularly regarding the growing influence of money, or “moneycracy,” within the delegate system.
“We’re going to address the concerns of Ghanaians. The party is listening,” he added.
