Tensions in the once peaceful Ngama Gberuk community in the Bunkpurugu district of the North East Region have erupted into violence, following clashes between two local clans.
Several individuals have been injured, and numerous properties have been destroyed in the ongoing conflict.
The feud between the Nandouk Teeb and Maan Teeb clans originated from a dispute over chieftaincy titles.
The conflict intensified after the two clans traveled to Binde for enskinment ceremonies, a traditional event for the formal installation of chiefs.
Upon completing the ceremonies, the newly enskinned chiefs and their entourage were ambushed by gunmen as they returned to Ngama Gberuk.
The attack left many injured, some from gunshots, while others were hurt in the chaos that followed.
The violence also led to the destruction of homes, livestock, and personal belongings, with many families now displaced and seeking refuge in nearby areas.
The unrest has raised fears of further retaliation, as gunfire continues to erupt in parts of the community, leaving residents fearful and in hiding.
