A shocking case of child abuse occurred in Apengusu, a town in the Asuogyaman District, where a 45-year-old woman, Mrs. Ama Fosu, allegedly assaulted her 5-year-old stepson, Joseph, for reportedly stealing a fish meant for dinner.
According to Mrs. Fosu, she discovered the missing fish after returning from the farm and was informed by other children that Joseph had taken and eaten it. Enraged, she allegedly beat the child severely. While she denied placing his foot on a hot object, the boy claimed that after the beating, she pressed his foot against a hot stone.
A Good Samaritan intervened and took the injured child to a clinic, after which the stepmother was handed over to the police.
The boy’s father was reportedly out of town when the incident occurred.
