John Jinapor Reveals 3,000 Containers of Transformers Left at Port, Accruing 1.5 Billion Cedis in Demurrage

- The equipment has now accumulated a total demurrage fee of 1.5 billion cedis.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr. John Jinapor, has disclosed that approximately 3,000 containers of electricity transformers, which were imported by the previous government, have been left stranded at the port.
Mr. Jinapor explained that the Akufo-Addo-led administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had imported these transformers but failed to take any action to clear them from the port.
As a result, the equipment has now accumulated a total demurrage fee of 1.5 billion cedis.
In response to the situation, the Minister announced that he has set up a committee to investigate the matter.
The committee will be tasked with producing a report and offering recommendations on how to resolve the issue.
Mr. Jinapor made these revelations during his appearance in Parliament, where he was responding to questions regarding the recent power outages occurring in several parts of the country.
