Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has accused the Minority and Majority Caucuses in Parliament, particularly the NDC, of causing the chaos that erupted during a session of the Appointments Committee over the vetting of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Ahiagbah criticized the Majority Caucus for pushing forward the vetting of Okudzeto Ablakwa and others without prior agreement.
He emphasized that such actions were unnecessary and went against the agreed-upon procedures.
He called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to act transparently and allow the vetting process to proceed as planned.
“The NDC must be transparent and allow the process to unfold as agreed upon,” Ahiagbah said. He also urged the NDC and NPP to work together to safeguard Ghana’s democracy.
“There’s no reason for the NDC to be sneaky, especially since the NPP has shown good faith. We must work together to protect and preserve our democracy,” he added in a post on X following the violent confrontation in Parliament.
The disruption began when the Minority proposed moving the vetting to Friday due to concerns about the day’s proceedings.
The Majority, however, strongly rejected the suggestion, insisting that the vetting continue as scheduled.
As tensions rose, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga intervened, halting the session and rescheduling the vetting to Friday, January 31.
