Charles Asiedu, Member of Parliament for Tano South, has expressed his frustration over the mayhem that unfolded during the Appointments Committee session, where Majority and Minority MPs clashed over the vetting of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The tension escalated when the Minority suggested postponing the vetting until Friday, citing concerns over procedure and exhaustion. This led to the destruction of microphones and tables in the chaos that ensued.
In an interview with Kwame Tanko on the Ghana Se Sen Show on Lawson TV/Radio, Asiedu condemned the disruptions, calling them a disgrace to Ghana’s democracy, the country, and the MPs responsible for the turmoil.
He laid the blame squarely on NPP MPs, alleging that Minority leader Afenyo-Markin signaled Jerry Shaib to overturn the table where microphones were placed.
Asiedu highlighted that the NDC MPs outnumber the NPP MPs, stressing that the NDC’s presence in Parliament is not for chaos but for the nation’s development and growth.
“You are only 88, while we are 183, plus four independent MPs. The NPP are not the only men in Ghana. We are not here to destroy Ghanaian property or engage in fights, but to focus on the country’s progress and development,” he stated.
Asiedu also called for sanctions against the MPs involved in the chaos, hoping such measures would serve as a deterrent to others.
