Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, has weighed in on the chaos during the Appointments Committee’s session, where Minority and Majority MPs clashed over the vetting of nominees Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The tension peaked when the Minority proposed rescheduling the vetting due to procedural concerns and fatigue, leading to damage to microphones and tables.
Responding to the uproar, Hon. Atta Akyea supported Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s decision to ask questions during the vetting process, calling it well within his rights.
He emphasized that Afenyo-Markin would face criticism from the public if he failed to hold the nominees accountable, as it’s his role as opposition leader to probe them.
Atta Akyea, speaking on the Ghana Se Sen show on Lawson TV/Radio with Kwame Tanko, expressed disapproval of the disruption, stating, “If Afenyo-Markin is taking time with his questions, that can be resolved calmly without chaos.”
He also questioned the reason behind the Minority’s proposal for an adjournment, suggesting that a simple walkout would have sufficed if they were truly fatigued.
