For the first time, referees will announce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decisions to fans inside stadiums during the upcoming Carabao Cup semi-finals in England.  

This trial initiative, inspired by practices in sports like rugby union and American football, aims to enhance transparency and understanding of key match decisions.

During the semi-finals, referees will verbally communicate final VAR decisions to the crowd, particularly those related to factual matters such as accidental handball by a goalscorer or offside offenses.   

The trial will take place during both legs of the semi-finals: Arsenal vs. Newcastle and Tottenham vs. Liverpool.   
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) emphasized their commitment to transparency and expressed hope that this initiative will improve fan understanding of VAR decisions.   
While near-live explanations of VAR decisions have been provided on social media this season, this will be the first time spoken announcements are made directly to the crowd.

This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the fan experience and improving communication around crucial match decisions.
