Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested on a murder-for-hire charge in Broward County, Florida.
He is currently being held without bail.
The arrest follows recent charges against five individuals connected to Durk’s hip-hop collective, Only The Family (OTF), linked to a 2022 shooting that resulted in the death of rival rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin.
Since 2019, the 33-year-old Chicago native has achieved remarkable success, landing six albums in the top five of the US Billboard chart and collaborating with artists like Drake and J. Cole.
Durk won a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance in February for his song “All My Life,” featuring J. Cole.
OTF, which Durk founded in 2010, is a prominent force in the Chicago drill scene. Reports indicate that the five men charged this week allegedly orchestrated the Los Angeles shooting in retaliation for the 2020 murder of King Von, an OTF artist.
A co-conspirator reportedly offered “money and lucrative music opportunities with OTF” to incentivize participation in the plot against Quando Rondo, although he himself has not been charged.
In a related incident, some of the accused shot at a vehicle containing Rondo and his family, tragically resulting in the death of his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson.
Additionally, Lil Durk is facing scrutiny following a lawsuit filed by the mother of another slain rapper, FBG Duck, which alleges his involvement in Duck’s 2020 shooting death.
Notably, he previously had charges, including attempted murder, dismissed after a non-fatal shooting in Atlanta in 2019.
