Two soldiers have been sentenced to ten years of hard labor each by the Asante Bekwai Circuit Court for kidnapping and robbing a small-scale miner, Mr. Andrews Asante, of GH₵96,500.00.

Air-force Lance Corporals (LAC) Alfred Mensah, 33, and Matthew Amoako, 28, were convicted after a trial, despite denying their involvement in the crime. Their accomplices, including three military personnel and a driver, remain on the run.

The incident occurred on November 25, 2023, when the soldiers, disguised in military uniform, raided Asante’s home in Ametubuom. After torturing him and his friends for money, they managed to steal a total of GH₵96,500.

Despite an attempt by the police to intercept the robbers, the criminals abandoned their vehicle at a broken bridge and fled on foot, only to be arrested later by local residents.

While Mensah and Amoako admitted their crimes and provided information about the stolen money, their accomplices remain at large.
