The High Court in Accra has scheduled the trial of Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, along with three others, to begin on July 18, 2025.
They face charges related to the alleged misappropriation of GH₵49.1 million intended for cybersecurity defense software.
This decision follows the court’s dismissal of the accused’s request to access national security financial records dating back to 1992.
With prosecution disclosures closed and the Case Management Conference concluded, the court confirmed that the trial will commence in two weeks.
However, the ruling has ignited controversy. Defense lawyer Samuel Atta-Akyea condemned the decision as a “distortion of justice,” accusing the court of suppressing crucial evidence and suggesting undue influence by the Attorney General.
He also pointed out procedural irregularities, highlighting that the judge, who had promised a detailed ruling on July 21, instead delivered a summary ruling on July 3—allegedly under the Attorney General’s prompting.
