Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has downplayed the need for a state of emergency in Ketu South despite severe flooding that has displaced hundreds.

He emphasized that long-term protective measures, such as sea defense projects, should take precedence over emergency declarations.

His remarks followed a visit by President John Dramani Mahama and key ministers to affected communities, including Salakope, Amutinu, and Agavedzi. Agbodza stressed the government’s commitment to sustainable solutions, assuring that steps are being taken to support the victims and prevent future disasters.

In response, President Mahama has directed Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to allocate funds for phase two of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project, aiming to safeguard coastal communities from future tidal waves.
