Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has voiced concerns about the leadership style of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Dafeamekpor’s criticism comes as Afenyo-Markin’s leadership tactics continue to draw fire from both sides of the aisle, with complaints echoing from his time as Majority Leader.
In a recent interview, Dafeamekpor emphasized recurring issues with Afenyo-Markin’s approach, pointing out that his behavior as Majority Leader had already sparked dissatisfaction.
He mentioned that Afenyo-Markin’s tendency to hold press conferences, dramatize issues, and walk out of parliamentary proceedings—sometimes even on matters raised by his own side—were among the troubling patterns observed.
“We’re all concerned because he’s not new to this role—he’s been a Majority Leader before, and we had reasons to complain then. Now, just a few months into his tenure as Minority Leader, the same issues are cropping up,” Dafeamekpor remarked.
The Majority Chief Whip hopes that the parliamentary recess will give Afenyo-Markin a chance to reflect on his performance and adjust his leadership style going forward.
“We trust this break will allow him to assess his actions between January and March and reconsider his approach to handling matters in the House,” Dafeamekpor added.
