Renowned economist and respected elder statesman, Kwame Pianim, has taken a unifying step by bringing together key figures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for a closed-door meeting focused on fostering party cohesion and ensuring a more constructive presidential race.

According to a post on Tuesday, June 24, Pianim was joined by other influential figures such as Kwasi Abeasi and Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the UK, Paapa Owusu Ankomah.
The gathering aimed to “steer the NPP presidential race into a sound lane,” as stated in the post—an indication of efforts to ease internal rivalries and refocus the party following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Attendees included leading presidential aspirants and senior party members such as former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former Railways Minister Joe Ghartey.

The post described Pianim’s involvement as a “fountain of hope” for the party’s future, suggesting that the NPP—symbolized by the elephant—may be regaining its footing. It also reflected on the potential benefits of being in opposition, adding, “Adversity in opposition can have some advantages.” The message concluded with optimism: “Hopefully, the narrative should change.”
