Malik Basintale, the Acting CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has declared that he will not renew the contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited unless the salary for sanitation workers is raised above the current GH¢250.
In a passionate Facebook post on Friday, April 25, Basintale sharply criticized the existing wage structure, calling it exploitative and unfair to the nation’s youth.
His stance aligns with growing public discontent, particularly driven by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, who has long highlighted the mistreatment of workers and violations of contract terms.
Basintale denounced the current arrangement, referring to it as a “rip-off” and vowed that it would not stand under his watch.
“All my life, I have fought for integrity and for the better placement of the youth and people of Ghana,” he wrote, pledging to never renew the contract in its current form. He expressed deep personal empathy for sanitation workers, adding that if a family member were in their shoes, he would not accept such low wages.
The YEA CEO invited the public to join him for a live Facebook discussion at 8 pm to share their views and strategize on how to address the issue.
