Charles Forson and Agyeman Prempeh Secure Tight Victories, Prompting Gratitude and Future Promises for Constituents

Story Highlights
  • NPP’s Charles Forson and Agyeman Prempeh declared winners in Tema Central and Ahafo Ano North after re-collation
  • Both results were overturned following legal challenges over irregularities in the initial counts
  • Re-collation process conducted under tight security and judicial scrutiny, highlighting tensions in the 2024 elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has claimed victory in the Tema Central and Ahafo Ano North constituencies after a decisive re-collation of election results conducted on December 21, 2024, at the Greater Accra Regional office of the Electoral Commission (EC).

In Tema Central, earlier results declaring Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the winner were overturned. Following the re-collation, Charles Forson of the NPP emerged victorious with 18,870 votes, narrowly surpassing Ebi Bright’s 18,815. This razor-thin margin underscores the intense scrutiny and high stakes of the re-collation process, which was conducted under tight security.

A similar scenario played out in Ahafo Ano North, where Agyeman Prempeh of the NPP was officially declared the winner with 20,353 votes, narrowly defeating NDC’s Kwasi Adusei, who polled 20,232 votes. This followed a thorough review of irregularities flagged during the initial collation.

These outcomes stem from a High Court order issued on December 20, 2024, mandating the Electoral Commission to review and announce results for contested constituencies. Legal challenges by the NPP, citing discrepancies in the initial tallies, played a pivotal role in prompting these re-collation exercises.

Charles Forson and Agyeman Prempeh both expressed gratitude to their supporters and pledged to focus on development and policies addressing local needs. These victories bolster the NPP’s standing in the contentious 2024 elections but also reignite debates about electoral integrity and the transparency of the collation process.

As disputes continue in other battleground areas, the re-collation outcomes highlight the fierce competition shaping Ghana’s political landscape.
