Telcos Begin Implementation of 10–15% Data Increases
Move aims to improve digital access and affordability following public complaints over high internet costs

- Telcos increase data bundles by 10–15% effective July 1, 2025
- Move follows government directive to improve affordability and digital access
- MTN, Telecel, and AT revise high-tier packages with significant data boosts
Telecommunication providers across Ghana have officially started rolling out increased data allocations, following a government directive to raise data bundle volumes by 10 to 15 percent.
The implementation began on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Prompted by mounting public concerns over expensive internet services, this policy aims to deliver better value to consumers.
The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, which led the initiative, views the move as part of broader efforts to expand digital inclusion and reduce the cost of online access.
Under the new policy, mobile network operators—MTN, Telecel, and AT—have adjusted their data bundles upward. Telecel and AT have raised data volumes by 10 percent across all packages, while MTN has applied a 15 percent increase.
Premium data plans have seen notable upgrades. AT’s GHC400 bundle now provides 236GB, up from 195GB.
Telecel’s GHC400 plan has jumped significantly from 90GB to 250GB. Meanwhile, MTN has brought back its GHC399 bundle, now offering 214GB—more than double the 92.88GB that was previously included in a GHC350 plan.
Communications Minister Sam George has tasked the National Communications Authority (NCA) with enforcing the new policy, cautioning that telcos failing to comply will face regulatory action.
Ahead of the rollout, telecom operators began notifying customers of the changes to ensure transparency and smooth implementation of the revised data structures.
