Suwarinsa Community Holds First-Quarter Health Durbar, Calls for Community-Led Initiatives

The Suwarinsa community in the Builsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region held its first-quarter community health durbar on January 28, 2025, at the Sandema Junior High School premises.

The event aimed to encourage community members to embrace community-led initiatives for better healthcare and development.

Health workers from the CHPS Centre presented their annual performance and highlighted challenges, including the low utilization of child welfare and maternal health services. Madam Judith Adochim, the sub-district leader, expressed concern over this issue and urged community members to patronize the CHPS Centre for their health needs.

Mr. Aloh Edward, the Deputy Municipal Health Promotion Officer, noted the district’s poor performance in health indicators at the regional level and called for collective efforts to improve health outcomes.

The Assembly Member for the Suwarinsa Electoral Area, Mr. Apina John, encouraged residents to take their health seriously and make good use of available healthcare services. He also appealed for community support to complete the Suwarinsa Health Centre, which is under construction.

Nab Ayontie Adeenze, the chief of Suwarinsa, called on husbands to support their wives during pregnancy and after childbirth. He also emphasized the importance of education for children while urging mothers to allow fathers to discipline their children to instill good values.

The chairman of the occasion, Mr. Abakisi Derrick, commended the community for initiating the construction of a health center. He stressed the need for self-reliance, saying, “The national cake has become so small; if communities wait for the central government for development, they will wait in vain.” He also suggested appointing sub-community leaders to enhance participation in community meetings.
