Inusah Fuseini, a private legal practitioner and former MP for Tamale Central, has sharply criticised suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for publicly speaking to the media amid her ongoing impeachment inquiry.

Following her first press conference since suspension, where she voiced concerns about threats to her safety and procedural irregularities in the impeachment proceedings, Fuseini argued that as a senior judicial figure, Torkornoo should have sought redress through the High Court rather than engaging the public through the press.

He emphasized that public statements from a suspended Chief Justice could undermine the integrity of the constitutional process underway.

“If there are claims of violations of fair hearing rights under Chapter 5, the proper avenue is not a press conference—especially not from the Chief Justice herself. The right course is to approach the High Court to assert those rights,” Fuseini stated.

Justice Torkornoo, suspended since April 22, 2025, faces impeachment under Article 146 of the Constitution after a prima facie decision by President John Dramani Mahama, following consultations with the Council of State.
