The Supreme Court has granted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its parliamentary candidates for Okaikwei North, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South an additional seven days to file their response to the Electoral Commission (EC).
This development follows a Certiorari application filed by the NDC and its four candidates, challenging the EC’s handling of election results in these constituencies.
The case originated after the High Court in Accra ordered the EC to collate and announce the results. While the EC has declared results in three of the constituencies, the Ablekuma North result remains pending.
Initially, the NDC faced hurdles in serving the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates involved in the case. The Supreme Court stepped in, ordering substituted service to ensure due process was followed.
On Thursday, April 3, when the case was heard, the applicants requested more time to respond to the EC’s reply.
Despite opposition from EC’s lawyer, Justin Amenuvor, who argued that the legal deadline had passed, the Court granted the NDC an additional week to proceed with their case.
