Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aligned with the Sudanese army, has announced a plan for a transitional government and eventual elections, even as a devastating civil war continues to rage.

In a social media post on Sunday, the ministry detailed its roadmap, citing progress made by the military against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The proposed plan involves the formation of a transitional government, the appointment of a civilian prime minister, and the initiation of a national dialogue with various political and civil society organizations.

The ultimate goal, the ministry stated, is to hold free and fair elections.

A key condition for participation in the political dialogue, according to the ministry, is that RSF forces must lay down their arms.

This includes withdrawing from Khartoum, West Kordofan, and the Darfur region. The two-year conflict has caused immense suffering, displacing millions and resulting in tens of thousands of deaths.
