Spain has officially declared three days of mourning following the devastating and historic floods in Valencia and surrounding regions, which have resulted in a tragic death toll of 95.
Starting today, October 31, and lasting until Saturday, November 2, the mourning period will see public events postponed or cancelled in a show of respect, flags at half-mast, and a shift to more somber programming across television channels.
President Pedro Sanchez is visiting the impacted areas today, having already consulted with regional leaders Carlos Mazon of Valencia and Emiliano García-Page of Castilla-La Mancha.
Angel Víctor Torres Pérez, the minister for Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, emphasized the government’s commitment to support affected communities. “The Government of Spain is dedicated to collaborating with all institutions and stakeholders impacted by the DANA and the Generalitat Valencia,” he stated in a press conference.
