SONA 2025: ‘Let Me Finish!’ – Afenyo-Markin Fumes as Speaker Cuts Him Off
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin rejects Speaker Bagbin’s attempt to cut his speech short, insisting on his right to speak freely in Parliament.

- Afenyo-Markin refuses to be cut off, demanding time to finish his speech
- He argues the NDC was given more time under the previous administration
- Bagbin insists on time limits, leading to a tense parliamentary moment
Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has strongly opposed Speaker Alban Bagbin’s request to limit his speech during parliamentary proceedings.
During a heated exchange on Thursday, following the President’s State of the Nation Address, Afenyo-Markin passionately defended his right to speak without restriction, declaring, “I cannot be limited, Mr. Speaker. Let me finish!”
The Minority Leader took issue with the Speaker’s directive, arguing that under the previous administration, the then-minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) was granted ample time to speak when former President Akufo-Addo was present in the chamber. He deemed the Speaker’s decision unfair and unacceptable.
Afenyo-Markin, who was responding to the President’s address, appeared dissatisfied with the presentation and began veering into unrelated matters, prompting the Speaker’s intervention.
