Police in Somanya have launched an investigation into the suspected brutal murder of a 30-year-old tricycle (Pragyia) rider, Otu Samuel, whose body was discovered naked and lifeless near a gutter in the Dorhetso area, a suburb of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Next to the body, authorities found his tricycle—bearing registration number M-23-GR 7942—completely engulfed in flames. The tragic discovery was made in the early hours of Saturday, May 3.
Eyewitness reports suggest that Samuel and other passengers in the tricycle were allegedly chased to the location around 2 a.m., following accusations of theft. While the others managed to escape, Samuel was left behind and later found dead.
Local residents interviewed by police claimed they neither heard any disturbance nor witnessed any mob action.
Medical personnel at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital pronounced Samuel dead upon arrival. His body has been transferred to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
So far, no arrests have been made, and police are urging the public to come forward with any information that may aid in solving the case.
