Suspected robbers have raided the Sokoban Krofrom Palace in the Ashanti Region, making off with the revered traditional ‘black stool’ along with other valuable items.

Family members of the Adumasa clan reported that the robbery occurred while the new chief and other family members were away at the Manhyia Palace, swearing the oath of allegiance.

Upon their return, they discovered the palace had been broken into, with the sacred black stool stolen.

In Akan culture, the “black stool” is a deeply revered symbol of authority, leadership, and spirituality, and holds immense cultural and historical significance as the heart of the royal family’s traditions and values.

Family members shared their account, describing how six heavily built men, armed with machetes and guns, surrounded the palace.

They vandalized the metal gate and made off with the black stool and other valuable items.

“We were here when the men attacked, destroying the doors and taking everything. Our elderly relatives who tried to stop them were beaten severely, and we were left crying as they looted the palace,” one family member explained.

The family is now in a state of fear and has called for urgent action from the authorities. Police have visited the scene and initiated an investigation into the robbery.
