Sharing T-shirts and Paraphernalia Couldn’t Save NPP from Defeat – Vincent Assafuah
MP for Old Tafo Constituency Reflects on NPP’s Electoral Loss and the Impact of Unmet Expectations
- Despite distributing over 40,000 t-shirts in the constituency, the NPP still faced defeat
- Unmet expectations from long-time supporters contributed to the party's loss
- Assafuah urged patience from NPP members, stressing that addressing their concerns will take time
Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has once again reflected on the NPP’s unexpected defeat in the December 7 elections.
Speaking on Lawson TV/Radio Ghana Se Sen show with Kwame Tanko, Assafuah explained that the party distributed a large number of NPP t-shirts and paraphernalia, especially in his constituency, but it was not enough to secure their victory.
He revealed that he printed about 20,000 t-shirts, while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia provided an even larger quantity, leading to unexpected challenges.
“Tafo has around 34,000 voters, but we distributed over 40,000 t-shirts. Despite having more than enough paraphernalia, it caused more problems than if we hadn’t distributed them at all,” he said.
Ekow Assafuah also acknowledged that the NPP failed to meet the expectations of some loyal supporters, which contributed to their heavy defeat.
“The problem we faced, Senior, is that no one can claim the NPP didn’t perform well – that’s simply not true. The issue was that the expectations of our people weren’t met, especially those who have been loyal to the NPP for many years but received nothing in return. I understand their pain and agree with their frustration. However, I was hopeful they would be patient, believing that after the NPP’s victory in the December 7 election, they would be rewarded.”
He urged NPP members and supporters to be patient, emphasizing that solving their issues wouldn’t be quick, as he can’t fix their grievances in just a few years.
