School Journey Turns Fatal: 3 Students, Taxi Driver Die in Winneba Crash

A tragic road accident at Natwibuw on the Winneba-Apam highway in Ghana’s Central Region has claimed the lives of three students and a taxi driver.

The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Monday as students from Uncle Rich and St. Paul Basic Schools were on their way home.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of a Toyota Rav4 (registration GN 5507-18) attempted a wrongful overtaking and crashed head-on into a taxi cab (CR 748-20) carrying the students.

The impact of the collision killed the taxi driver instantly, with emergency responders struggling to retrieve his body from the wreckage. One student also died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries later at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba.

Two additional students who were involved in the crash are currently receiving medical treatment.
