The Member of Parliament for Atebubu-Amantin, Hon. Sanja Nanjia, has expressed grave concern over the rising incidents of armed robberies along the Atebubu-Kumasi highway, particularly following the tragic killing of a 75-year-old driver by robbers.

Hon. Nanja highlighted that these crimes have plagued the area for over a decade, creating increasing worry for locals.

In an interview with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV/Radio Ghana Se Sen, Hon. Nanja criticized the poor state of the road, which is riddled with potholes, exacerbating the situation.

He pointed out that the highway serves as a crucial route for Atebubu’s six markets, but the robberies have severely hindered their operations.

He revealed that he plans to petition the incoming Minister for Roads and Highways to address the road’s deteriorating condition.

On the recent protest by drivers at the local police station on January 10, he acknowledged their frustration, emphasizing that the ongoing robberies have caused fear and distress among both commuters and residents.

Despite the drivers’ actions, burning two police vehicles Hon. Nanjia commended the police for their professionalism in handling the situation.

“The situation has been worrisome. The armed robber attacks have left commuters and residents constantly terrified. The protesters burned two police vehicles, but the police officers acted professionally.”
