In a heart-wrenching scene captured on video, a nurse can be seen desperately trying to save the life of a victim caught in the deadly clash between illegal miners and AngloGold security at Obuasi.
The tragic confrontation, which resulted in over 10 fatalities and several injuries, has left the community in shock.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the illegal miners, who had been instructed not to carry weapons, entered AngloGold’s premises with the intent to expand their mining operations. Security personnel confronted the miners, demanding they leave, which sparked the violent altercation.
One miner recalled how their leaders instructed them to stay and continue working, despite the escalating tension. Some miners knelt before the security officers, pleading for mercy.
However, the situation took a deadly turn when warning shots were fired, and on the third shot, security personnel opened fire, killing many of the miners.
“The soldiers fired three warning shots, but on the third, they aimed directly at us. At first, we thought it was a warning, but when we saw our people lying in cold blood, we knew it was real,” one miner recounted.
This incident highlights the deepening crisis of illegal mining activities and the increasing tension between miners and security forces in the region.
