Russia has issued a strong warning to the United States against launching attacks on Iran, cautioning that such actions would drastically destabilize the Middle East and could lead to a nuclear catastrophe.

Speaking at an economic forum in St. Petersburg, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov emphasized Moscow’s close ties with Tehran, following the signing of a strategic partnership pact earlier this year. He urged Washington to avoid direct involvement in the conflict, calling proposals of military strikes “speculative” and dangerous.

Russia’s concerns come amid Israeli strikes targeting Iranian nuclear sites, which Moscow says bring the world perilously close to disaster.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova highlighted the risks of hitting nuclear facilities, drawing parallels to the Fukushima disaster and questioning the global community’s silence.

While Russia maintains a strategic alliance with Iran, it has also attempted to offer mediation in the escalating Israel-Iran tensions—a proposal yet to be accepted. Despite the complex regional dynamics, Kremlin insiders suggest Russia might find some indirect advantages in the conflict, including shifts in global oil markets and the redistribution of U.S. military focus.
